The first step is making a consultation appointment.
Consultations:
These appointments are set for 30 minutes. These conversations can go over an hour if we’re vibing and getting deep into your hair story. The consultation is the opportunity to discuss your budget and customize a hair treatment plan that does not undermine your financial capacity. Please do not hesitate to relax and stay a while. We can even go in together on a halal pizza from Golden’s :)
Out of respect for my chronic illnesses, I do not install full heads of individual braids or micro locs, or extensions on adults.
*Note: I will not loc your hair if you are not descended from the African Diaspora. This is a moral imperative as much as it is a health concern as a cosmetological professional. If your hair does not loc, your hair is not loc’d. Hair can be manipulated with abrasive, frankly violent means of creating mats masquerading as naps. After observing enough processes I am appalled at the trauma white people’s hair endures to fail at an aesthetic that is truly a political statement.
Dread locs, Dreads and Locs are an organic natural process that can be manicured to achieve a deliberate aesthetic. Bat combing kanekalon to attach to the “twist and rip” method of locking straight hair is inflicting damage. Even when hair is woven, white hair is susceptible to damage to arrector pili muscles and your germinal matrices because of the unnatural weight and tension inherent to that volume and density of extensions. I will not harm your hair as a means to disrespect my people. If you insist, I can absolutely direct you to someone who specializes in doing this healthily. I can have humane respect for an individual licensed professional’s portfolios while being vehemently opposed to the entirety of their business. I am not trained to do this service, and it goes against everything I was taught about health and anatomy in school. None of this applies to Black people–mixed or otherwise–with loose textures. I am mixed and have kinky hair that behaves loosely. My hair resists loc’ing, too. There are ways to create locs on loose hair within our traditions and I am happy to research and execute trusted methods with you to the best of my ability.

One on one make up lessons are for those seeking to have a professional consultation outside of a fluorescent-lit mall store. We will work with one another on basic makeup techniques. So, bring ideas that inspire you or looks you’d like to recreate for particular events or every day life. We can also discuss affordable products that work for your budget, abilities, and comfort level.
